Usage scenarios with humanoid robots

The humanoid robots NAO and Pepper from Softbanks Robotics (formerly Aldebaran Robotics) are being used. Both models are programmable and versatile in their hardware configuration. They are ideal for social robotics projects.


Usage scenarios


Szenario 1:

Pepper acts as an autonomous library assistant to help users (with fun factor; for example, where can I find the book, how does the printer work?) and to relieve the staff of the university library. - The RoboticLab cooperates closely with the university library and the library team around Dr. Frank Seeliger.

Szenario 2:

The NAO robot as a reading mate for primary school children. He is to be set up to form a tandem of child reader and non-human partner to motivate and support children in reading.

Cooperation partner for this project is the city library in Wildau, the winner of the Innovation Award for Libraries, granted by the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg 2017.


Szenario 3:

NAO and Pepper in use within RoboticLab school laboratories and internships with the aim of arousing and promoting interest in MINT (mathematics / computer science / natural sciences / technology) as well as teaching students current topics in humanoid robotics.
The RoboticLab is part of NaWiTex, a network of student labs at the TH Wildau.

Szenario 4

Pepper as a buddy in age-appropriate living. Can humanoid robots be integrated into smart home environments so that elderly, needy people perceive them as real enrichment and support in their own homes? The basis of this subproject are the results of various theses in the study course Telematics.

The team and the vision

The RoboticLab is part of the research group for mobile information and assistance systems at the TH Wildau. The working group's vision is to develop and test scenarios in which humanoid robots are used in various areas of everyday life - not to displace the proven, but to close gaps and to inspire solutions to current problems in society. It deliberately exploits the curiosity and interest of people in these technical companions.
